The quaint picturesque town developed in the late 1800s is rich in history and brimming with one-of-a-kind antique finds. Walnut offers its visitors one of the largest selections of antique shops and malls in Iowa. You'll also find specialty and gift shops, restaurants, motels, pubs, sewing and quilt shops, and a local bakery whose aroma welcomes you as you approach downtown.
As you stroll downtown, you'll step back in time as most of the original storefronts offer visitors a glimpse of yesteryear. The best shops of today and nostalgia combine under the globed street lights that line the brick streets...you might even find a horse tied to one of the hitching posts in this serene setting!
As you wander down the streets of Walnut, be sure to visit the Walnut Creek Historical Museum. The museum brings pieces of Walnut's history to life. See many items from the early settlers of Walnut.
Visit the 1920s one-room country school house museum, Monroe Township No. 8, that was moved into Walnut. This is a great experience for both young and young at heart!
