Walnut Community Center
Business Plan
Mission Statement:
The City of Walnut endeavors to establish a community center/event center by transforming the former Walnut Community School building into a thriving center of activity for the citizens of Walnut and the surrounding area.
Three Sections:
Section One: The original schoolhouse built in 1913 is structurally sound. Although a purpose is not yet identified, the goal is to maintain its integrity and restore it to close to its original look and feel.
Section Two: The high school building built in 1961 is structurally sound and is viable for converting into office or business space for one or multiple businesses. The rooms can be developed as needed to accommodate any specific needs of a business entity.
Section Three: The middle portion of the buildings built in 2000 consists of the old and new gymnasiums, three new classrooms, new restrooms, new locker rooms and two large new rooms formerly used by the band and chorus classes.
Goals:
Maintain the 1910 building to reduce deterioration of the structure to a minimum until a purpose is identified and funds become available for restoration.
Offer space in the high school building for lease and develop the space as needed.
Develop the middle section into a community center which would include rental space for events, a fitness center and a new kitchen.
Develop the playground area into parking space.
